The Embassy took part in the meeting of the WHO Regional Office for Europe

The Embassy took part in the meeting of the WHO Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe) following the visit of the delegation of the Turkic Council headed by the Secretary General, Ambassador Baghdad Amreyev to Copenhagen on November 30 - December 1, 2020. The event, which was held in a video format, was attended by the Ambassadors and diplomats of the member countries and observers of the Turkic Council, as well as senior officials of the WHO Office and its representatives in the regions.

 

In their informative speeches, Regional Director Dr.Kluge and Ambassador Amreyev informed about the cooperation between the Turkic Council and WHO on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two organizations on September 11, 2020. Moreover, the Secretary General briefed WHO officials on the activities of the Turkic Council in the field of health to mitigate the negative consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic among the member and the observer states of the organization.

 

Reaffirming the Turkic Council's support for the efforts of the WHO Regional Office for Europe to bring regional multilateral health institutions and mechanisms together as one of the key objectives of the European work program (2020–2025), the Secretary-General expressed the Turkic Council's readiness to coordinate and collaborate with WHO beyond in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, but also in the post-pandemic period. Ambassador Amreyev and Dr. Kluge noted the importance of preparing and adopting a Joint Action Plan to fulfill the terms of the Memorandum.

 

The parties intend to develop joint programs based on the Memorandum, including the strengthening of health systems and training personnel, providing technical assistance, introducing scientific developments and innovative technologies, reducing the negative consequences of the spread of infectious diseases, etc.

Regional Director Kluge emphasized that cooperation between the Turkic Council and its members with WHO is a good example for promising multilateral cooperation for other countries and international organizations.

The high contribution of Kazakhstan to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and the successful, fruitful cooperation of the WHO/Europe with the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan have been underlined during the meeting.
